New Project Barn Find AMX gets Soda Blasted

We have nothing on our project to tell a child to find AMX a while since we were diverted to some other projects for a while, but spring comes, and I decided this little hot rod will have a good show in Nashville in May . This expression means to be in some serious work. Although we are still little things to do in the car we recently had the exterior of the vehicle Soda Blasted. We did this in our country with lots of open space. If you do not live in a remote area, do not try this at home kids, you will have some very sad neighbors!

Baking powder is used as abrasive and a large percentage is converted to a very fine cloud when the car just under high pressure. Preparations are significantly different from other, more abrasive media. This was our first application of this process and it will not last, but we learned a lot about this project.

Baking soda removes paint without damaging the soft surface, such as rubber, it does not hurt glass, chrome or other unpainted trim. But this does not mean we have the space and the mask to protect from things. Our project AMX child found in the car and has full interior is still in it. It meant we had to protect all painted surfaces under the hood, on the inside.

I will not go into detail on this post.
Because the process is almost finished, we were very relieved to see that the body is only as good as we had suspected. We found only a small area of plaster was applied in the right rear quarter.

As with all bare metal, baking soda leaves a film that prevents corrosion, while the body is stored in the. Before you paint your body needs to be carefully cleaned to remove the paint, or problems in the future. We leave it as it is and remains dry, but not in the paint for a few weeks.
