I said it many times. "People are what makes the cars so much," Yes, I have the sensation of the acceleration back pushes in his chair, and the beauty of the car lines and physical sensations back to the edge of a catastrophe love, but in the long term people. If you know someone who is not in the car scene, it can be difficult to explain herd mechanical objects. These pieces of steel, such as family members for many of us.

While he participated in the first Talladega family gathering, we met Michael Troels, who had distinguished Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II Dan Gurney car show. As we talked, he explained that the recovery "Bunkie" Knudsen 1969 Ford Talladega business. For those of you who do not know that the yellow Talladega, specially built for "Bunkie" Knudsen, then president of the Ford Motor Company.

Just as important as the car is the legend of Talladega, it's much more important for families Troels. The following story was written by Michael, the first part of a history of driving this car in the coming months leading up to the Second annual family reunion Talladega.
The story of "Bunkie" Knudsen Talladega reconstruction (Part I)
Resolution

The year was 2003, instead, Woodward Dream Cruise in downtown Birmingham, Revine with Ford. This will be the last time, "Bunkie" Knudsen Talladega could be seen in public in their original state. After much deliberation and soul searching for my father, George Troels, it was decided that a full frame off restoration of the grill. The decision came with much controversy, because purists felt the car should be kept in its original state. It has been said that the restoration of the car door for part of their mystique and their value. Finally, my father was in the best interest of the car to make a full recovery, and it was time to return.
Dream

With that decision is now time to see the dream become reality. The first task was to a restoration shop that not only understands my father had a vision to find, but you could see through. In early 2003, my father named Ronald Shaw, owner of R & R Restoration in Taylor Michigan. Ron just finished the restoration in 1968 built a factory Super Stock Cobra Jet Mustang Cobra Jet Rhonda known as natural gas. After a meeting, my father knew that he was a man who will help him bring his visions to life found. After several meetings and much planning is now time for reconstruction to begin.

With everything in place and recovery must begin with my father to the last minute decision that surprised everyone. To this day it remains unknown why, but his decision was put on hold until 1969 Talladega my mother Cyclone Spoiler Dan Gurney Special. Cyclone in the family since 1969 when my grandfather bought in November, Evans Lincoln Mercury in Garden City, Michigan. Then in the late autumn of 2003, Ron began the restoration of the cyclone, it would be almost 2 years. It should debut at the Concours d'Elegance at Meadow Brook in the U.S. in the summer of 2006.

With Cyclone, who spent the summer of 2006 for the show circuit, it is now time to start rebuilding, "Bunkie" Knudsen Talladega.
Tragedy does restoration

The preparation and planning is being unthinkable happened that would forever the course of a man hopes and dreams change. In March 2007 my father was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, he was only six months of life. The restoration was discontinued put before it began, and the future seemed uncertain. September 18: e My father died in 2007. A week before his death, I promised him I would make sure that the car will be rebuilt. I told him that everything was done just as expected.

In July 2008, I sit with his mother and Ron begins debate on renewal. We all agreed that the car had done in memorial of his father. The restoration was due to start in autumn 2008. The plan had its premiere at the 40th Anniversary of Talladega Superspeedway in 2009.
On 19 September 2008, the day after the first anniversary of my father on my mother diagnosed with both brains and bone cancer. Originally got a few weeks to live. Reconstruction will again be stopped before it began. On June 28, 2009 my mother lost her battle with cancer. All the talk about recovery now ceased to exist.
Promise is fulfilled, the dream begins
Now it's November and five months have passed since the loss of his mother and my sister Julie and I had to make a decision. The three of us is Ron knew what to do. We had a promise and a dream to fulfill. It's time to start rebuilding, "Bunkie" Knudsen Talladega.
We all knew it would be an easy task, the man who loved all the knowledge and the vision was gone. That was until now my sister and I, and a man who told my father to see his vision become reality, Ronald Sandie.
