Liberal Petrolhead. Oxymoron? Not any more

Vince Cable gets behind the wheel of an Aston Martin DBSDr Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, visited Jaguar Land Rover and Aston Martin yesterday. And it looks like he had a fine old time.With the Liberal / Conservative coalition now in charge we seem to have got a Government where a big chunk of the ministers are Liberals (is there a Liberal MP without a portfolio of some description?). Which I suppose is the price we pay for allowing the Conservatives to become Labour Lite instead of having real conviction politicians. Still, it throws up some interesting conflicts.

One of those conflicts is seeing staunch Liberals extolling virtues – and policies – they clearly don’t believe (it also works the other way round). So with a Liberal Business Minister in Vince Cable (who is at least a Government Minister with real-world business experience. A rare breed these days. In fact he may be the only one other than Philip Hammond) we were sure to see lots of ‘Environment’ issues to the fore, even if he did have to ‘promote’ policies to the right of his own views.

Which is exactly what we got in the press releases we’ve had in after Vince went out glad-handing our car industry yesterday. Or at least the posh bits in Jaguar Land Rover and Aston Martin. We heard all about the great work Jaguar is doing with the XJ Limo Green and the wonderful support they get from Government grants to push forward the boundaries of ‘Green Technology’. The usual claptrap.

What caught our eye though was not the worthy prose in the press release but the photos Jaguar and Aston Martin sent us of the Minister and their motors. We got a photo of Vince grinning as he was let loose in a DBS Convertible and looking extremely eager to get behind the wheel of a more than warm XKR.

How nice to see a politician – especially a Liberal politician – showing his real feelings about wonderful cars instead of the normal ‘toe-the-line’, po-faced rhetoric about planet-wrecking extravagances.

Blimey, that’s two politicians in the current cabinet who aren’t ‘Stepford’ politicians. What’s going on?

Magna vibrates Rear Glass Window to Act as Subwoofer

Well, it's something else. Automotive Supplier Magna International has recently launched a new technology that replaces conventional subwoofer in the rear of the vehicle.



In short, the subwoofer is more concave shape of the material moving in and out as he ran an electrical current. Magna používá similar properties to the rear of the vehicle that functions as a membrane much like a normal subwoofer. The use of glass to vibrate, the two drivers are installed at the base, and the amplifier amplifies the signal source. Unique glass kit will help you in and out without problems.

His foundation in noise cancellation technology means that the system does not project beyond the vehicle bass and many aftermarket systems. Whether used as a substitute for a subwoofer, the new technology increasingly used for noise reduction properties.

"It's a whole new way of creating noise in the car," Magna Product Director Gregg Rizzo told the Detroit News. "It was like sitting in the subwoofer box."

Magna has four years research and development of noise reduction technology for the automotive industry. The program makes use of car windows and seal to suppress outside noise and the engine gives a much more pleasant driving experience. The company expects the car to take the technology and hopes to produce cars in 2015.

Sportec SPR1R upgraded version with a capacity of 858 kW

Exhibition at Salon Prive Motor Show this year, Sportec company plans to introduce a new upgraded version of the supercar SPR1. It is known that there SPR1 framework developed from the Porsche 911 Turbo and was released last year. New models will be named SPR1R.

Designed and manufactured in Switzerland, SPR1R property and equipment features top line car. Energy supply for the car is turbocharged six-cylinder dual-aligned T80M 3.6 liters and 858 horsepower four-wheel drive system.
The equipment features include titanium rod, carbon fiber floor, active suspension systems and brake disc ceramic type racing F1. In particular, the panel body with synthetic carbon / Kevlar, alloy wheels, cage protection and ceramic brake discs reduce weight and improve safety for vehicles.
With measures to reduce the weight of many detailed parts, Sportec has SPR1R only slightly to 50 kg total weight 1295 kg. After weight reduction, SPR1R become one of the lightest model car on the market and have the capacity ratio / weight increases to about 722 bhp per ton.

Besides, Sportec also installing a traction control system and monitored via the touch screen in the cockpit. This keeps the system more functional data recording and time allows drivers to control motor instantaneous information.
All of these upgrades have brought in significant improvement in terms of vehicle features. Although the time the vehicle from 0-100 km / h remains constant at 3 seconds, but time acceleration 0-300 km / h reduction was 0.9 seconds compared to the old record. Garth Brooks in Nashville

It is perhaps a bit off topic for car collectors and muscle car, but it's worth reading. Katrina and last night I attended a Garth Brooks benefit concert for the citizens of Nashville and surrounding areas. It was just one of nine such concerts was a performance in the next few days. It was the first to go on sale, and only one will be held on a regular weekend night, making him the flexibility to break out of their normal routine.

All means all concerts will be the victims of the floods that our community, terrible hit in May this year to help. They are 1000 years after the floods damaged and destroyed, have never been treated in flood prone areas, that the owners had flood insurance. Garth and Trisha Yearwood gave them all!

Garth appearance on stage with two and half hours! Bridgestone Arena has more than 16,000 people and nobody was at all! At one point, Garth was listening audience on stage to sing his songs! It was incredible! Another time was on stage with a band and background singers, no requests from the audience, and then sings a song. I've seen it done in bars and small businesses, but never in the big arena. The man is amazing.

It is very refreshing and motivating for someone who was so successful that it remains so modest and generous. It's really fulfilling their Christmas spirit.

Registration Due for new 2011 Talladega Family Reunion

It's time to prepare for 1969-Ford Talladega reunification. No, it's not a bunch of family members of Alabama redneck dreams of getting together for a drink, maybe a few. If you are new to this site should know that they are indeed in the 1969 NASCAR Ford brand cars and aircraft engines. These cars are designed and built for one purpose are quick on the super speedway like Daytona and Talladega.

These cars are only built in 1969 and in very limited numbers. Be specific family meeting, Ford Talladega, Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II and spoiler, Cale Yarborough, Dan Gurney Special. If you add up all the cars that were built for this purpose, the total amount is approximately the same number in 1970 Plymouth Super Bird! When was the last time you saw your show at Super Bird or pleasure? Now consider that Blue Oval brand, built in 5 different cars, but still significantly higher than the number of winged Road Runners.


On 9 September and October 2011 in Sevierville, Tennessee, Talladega second annual family reunion will assemble what will be the largest collection of these vehicles after they left the factory in 1969. The first annual reunion was 25 examples, ranging from restored originals of many prototype race cars and fully restored classics. 2011 hopes to double that number is unique and as vehicles on display. Met Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee on the Freeway!

This fee is based on a comment left on our Dean Moore, Bobby Darin 150 Didi Car page. First, if you do, AOT, who Bobby Darin is a disgrace to you, but it just means that you grew up in the 50s/60s AOT. Bobby Darin was a very special talent that many young people are deceased, but when he was here, left a remarkable legacy. He was not only an extraordinary musician, was a car guy. The car is designed as a dress designer Andy Didi. Construction lasted from 1953 to 1960 150 Didi. Darin wanted very badly and the car was purchased for $ 150,000 (which would be about $ 1,500,000 in today's dollars). The wheels on the spacecraft is powered by a V8 engine and a wheelbase of 125 inches! It was not a show car. New 2011 Talladega Family Reunion Registration Due NOW!

Reunion. You can also use the following Talladega ninth 2011th Family Reunion September 10 and what you have not read before the deadline! You must register for the 2011 reunion of Talladega, 31 in the third 2011 to make sure you have enough space on the show.

New AC Cobra Mk VI to show at Monaco

AC is due to show the AC Cobra MK VI at the Top Marques Show in MonacoAC is the UK’s oldest car maker, and is about to launch at a new car – the AC Cobra Mk VI

– at the Top Marques Show in Monaco.

Despite being a UK car maker, AC is to build the new Cobra MK VI in Germany, at Gullwing GmbH, which gives a clue to the car’s unique feature – a removable hard top with gullwing doors.

The AC Cobra has a long history, and is one of the most sought after replica cars on the market (which is hardly surprising considering the cost of an original Cobra), and is said to be single handedly responsible for the UK’s national 70mph speed limit, which was brought in after some extremely high-speed incidents on the new M1, where AC was testing its cars. Why bother with a test track when you have 100 miles of fresh, straight tarmac courtesy of H.M. Govt. was obviously the thinking, but HMG had other ideas, and AC’s fun and frolics were stopped in their tracks by the new blanket 70mph limit.

The new MK VI Cobra features, together with the removable gullwing top, the Corvette 6.2 litre V8 which produces 437 bhp in the GT and a huge 647bhp in the GTS. With the Cobra weighing in at only just over 1000 kg, that translates in to 0-60mph times of just 3.3 seconds in the GTS. But the Cobra does get a decent set of brakes, courtesy of Porsche, so at least it should be able to stop.

The Cobra also gets a few home comforts such as premium leather and aircon to make the journey more comfortable. And at the speeds this Cobra can manage I guess you’ll end up with the aircon on full most of the time to cool your sweating brow.

AC are in the process of setting up a network of European dealers to service and sell the car. On paper this looks like it could be as big a blast as the Carol Shelby Cobras from the ’60s. No word on price – but it won’t be cheap.

Barn Find Project AMX Varible Flow Mufflers and Sound

Our child will find AMX Project progress and we are pleased that this creature made and treated. I can assure you that this car will see some serious street time next summer, but work remains. Progress has slowed a bit in the summer to play with some of the other cars. But we will continue to provide regular updates so keep checking back.

So far you have seen the electric exhaust cutouts, allowing the driver to open a header from his seat with a simple flip switch. They are so cool, but how often can you really open up fully open exhaust? I have a plain old dump header of our El Camino in 1959, but is seldom open. It is a joint effort to obtain and return the keys and screws that run open headers on the street is a challenge for the ticket.

Sometimes you like the noise and exhaust sometimes quiet ride is very comfortable. I found the answer, a brand new scarf Patriot, and they were invited vara flow ends. The concept is similar to an electrical declaration header, but the difference is that the move will be a headscarf and not the head. These shocks seem all polished stainless steel balls in the form of scarves (Nice), but they have little flapper valve, which allows you to fine-tune the sound. Rumble like, a button tabs open. Would you calm on the button again and it was quiet.

Now the bad news is that the rumble is moderate and does not break any windows or off car alarms, but that's another rumble, it sounds good and healthy. Since the quiet side, you heard, but the car was quiet. Depending on the volume of the sound of your driving differences should not differ from the driver. On the outside you can easily see the difference. I recently went AMX cruise and had a chance to do it several times. I have the car on the highway at full speed to test the sound difference, but the city I am very happy.

I loved the roar of the open scarf when I was just cruising down the street and pulls into the parking lot to the show. But when I got the engine to 3,000 rpm to see where the sound is a bit annoying. Conversations in the car will work harder and will be a number of good vibes "to be heard. With a flick of the switch exhaust sound to a level that could be heard but not boring.

When I first installed the exhaust I have a separate switch for every scarf I thought you wanted to play with a little more open than others, but it is "silly idea". I quickly realized that was not very smart, and add a little power. Quickly, I re-connected to a switch to operate both the exhaust, no big deal.

I also have a large photo of a terminal for the plant used to remove these beautiful welding fumes. These things are not cheap, but it looks good and leak away. I will keep you informed as AMX closer to completion and see more of the road.

Smokey Yunick Hot Vapor Engine in Hot Rod Magazine

If you have been with us since the beginning know that one of the first features that you know all the cars are steam Smokey Yunick Fiero, and now back to Hot Rod Magazine. (You can see on our site listed as one of the "sources"at the end of the article.) Smokey the new article can be found in the September 2010 issue of Hot Rod on pages 40 and 41





Our friend Tony Allers indicated in the length of his role in bringing the Fiero back to life and to gain recognition as a genius of Smokey on this vehicle. We also know now that Ralph Johnson worked closely with Smokey and the invention was actually the man who revived the original concept back to the early 50: s year.
